I am now in my 50s, but over 40 years ago I was sexually abused over the course of several years by a retired police officer who lived near us. He was trusted and respected by everyone, including my parents, which is partly what enabled him to continue the abuse for such a long period of time. This abuse has led to mental health problems, including anxiety and depression, problems forming intimate relationships, I have never wanted children because of what happened to me. It is something that will never leave me.
