I was married to a high ranking police officer for 13 years. I didn’t realise the extent to which I’d been a victim of abuse until I left. I was what would now be described as coercively controlled. I was gas lighted regularly, no one would believe me, he told me I was mentally unstable, my children would be removed from my care. He even told his next partner that we had been to court and the judge ruled he should have shared custody of our children because he was such an amazing officer….we never went to court!
He wrote on my breasts when I tried to go out one night “property of…”
I was accused of unfaithfulness throughout the 13 years meanwhile he was regularly unfaithful.
My eldest daughter is now receiving psychological support for her early childhood trauma meanwhile my other daughter still visits her dad. I have no trust for the police. Do they attract this type or create them?
I’ve never reported my case …his partner after me is a serving officer and she was not taken seriously.
