Our founder’s acceptance speech for the Emma Humphreys Memorial Award prize. This was recorded at the FiLiA Women’s Right’s Conference in 2021.
Remembering Emma, and highlighting the vital work done by Centre for Women’s Justice. Please support the call for a full public inquiry into UK policing and its responses to violence against women and girls. In particular, when the alleged perpetrator is a police officer. Sarah Everard’s death is a watershed moment. An inquiry must be on a statutory footing under the Inquiries Act 2005. Nothing less will do.
For Lydia – and all the other women who have been abused by police perpetrators – please support @PoliceMeToo #FiLiA2021 @EmmaHPrize @FiLiA_charity

Emma Humphreys would have been 55 years old today. She fought throughout her life – against the violence of men and the violence of an unjust system. Today we remember her life and her fight for justice. pic.twitter.com/Quyu8onRDV

Freya is currently sharing her experience of the horrific abuse on her and her small child by a serving police officer. Abuse that was reported but covered up by his colleagues.
