Elizabeth Hardwick | Abusive, swinger detective working in domestic abuse.

My ex-partner of 16 years; a Detective working in domestic abuse was arrested during COVID following 6 years support from Women’s Aid. Women’s Aid instigated his arrest; the MARAC team were also involved. 2 years previously he had received disciplinary action for derogatory terms used against women in a WhatsApp group and for failing to challenge sexualised behaviour within his team. Despite an appeal, CPS decided there was insufficient evidence to charge. He is still a serving officer.

A few years previously I found out he was a swinger and a registered user on ‘Swingers.com’. I was still too afraid to leave the relationship. During this time, he used two false names to contact and meet vulnerable women dating back many years. Having contacted the police recently their response was that ‘officers are entitled to a private life’.

Nothing came of the internal investigation; the force were dismissive. I also found WhatsApp messages between officers that refer to a woman being ‘in the grooming phase’ having been recently picked up by my ex-partner whilst on duty. He has continually shown a complete disregard and lack of respect for women, both within his professional and personal life. I still struggle to comprehend how he is still able to serve as an upstanding officer in such a privileged position.
